Technological changes bring many great and new inventions to help society flourish. These inventions have two opposing viewpoints on how it affects society. An invention is either progressive or it is destructive. The nature of technological advancement is that most of these new developments have characteristics that support either belief. This means that technology's affect on society depends on the original motive or design for how it is used and human responsibility to use it accordingly. One such example in our society is the Internet. The Internet was originally designed for quick communication over long distance, but it now introduces cyber-attacks that are a quicker and new form of crime. When criticizing whether an invention is productive, we should ask, are we using it as it was intended to? The greatest form of destruction is the misuse of our creations.
I don't really think that an invention is either is progressive or destructive. I think it can be both despite what the creator intended it for. I think that even creations that original had bad intention s can still be used for good if we are able to find a good use for it. I do agree about the misuse of creations but I think more that it isn't if we use it how it was intended, but more basically if we use it for good or bad.
ReplyDeleteI feel that we cannot label inventions as clear cut progressive or destructive. We can find at least some good use in all inventions. But more often than not we find that inventions tend to be used outside of their original purposes and frequently for even more good! Look at Play-Doh for example. It was originally a wall paper cleaner and now its a childhood staple! But there are always bad to follow the good in these type of things.
